Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays you either love, dread or view with indifference. According to history.com, some believe Valentine’s Day is celebrated in mid-February to honor the anniversary of three different saints who were martyred around 270 A.D. – others claim the Catholic church may have placed the St. Valentine’s Feast Day in February to “Christianize” the pagan celebration of Lupercalia, a fertility festival. Regardless of its origins, the lover’s holiday is second to Christmas when it comes to sending out cards…every year, about 150 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged.
It appears I will not be exchanging Valentine’s gifts or cards this year with a special someone, but I still plan to celebrate! I’ll be enjoying Galentine’s with two fabulous female co-workers at Easy Radio. Shannon, Chelsey Rene and I are heading to a fundraiser Tuesday, February 13th for SC Cares, the Coastal Animal Rescue & Educational Sanctuary — Chocolate & Champagne for the Creatures will be held from 5-9pm at Inlet Affairs in Murrells Inlet.
We’ll be feasting on heavy hors d’oeuvres, chocolate candies by Sweeties in Georgetown and desserts by Pawleys Island Bakery. There also will be a chocolate fondue bar and champagne! How can we say no? Please join us — whether you are part of a couple or will be going solo! Details can be found at sc-cares.org – we hope to see you there!
