My School Lunch Tour for this school year, sadly, has ended. I visited Forestbrook Elementary, my last stop on the tour, on Friday and had a wonderful time! April and her cafeteria staff do a tremendous job every school day and are committed to feeding the kids nutritious, yummy food, giving them the fuel to learn and grow.
During this year’s tours, I’ve stopped by elementary, middle and high schools in Horry County and even toured a private school, upon the request of the administration. It was a real pleasure meeting so many great kids, teachers, principals and cafeteria staff and every school served up a healthy, delicious lunch!
Easy will resume the tours in Horry County in the fall, but this summer, we will be visiting schools in Georgetown County. I’m told the superintendent there keeps a very busy, but fun summer calendar for participating students.
As I reflect on these tours, which began as a fun thing to do that would be interesting to share on the radio, I realize it was much more than a station event – it was about breaking bread with strangers who became friends – it was about sharing stories and connecting – it was about love and fellowship. I’ve made new friends along this journey and I look forward to making new ones next school year.
