Van was born in Charleston and grew up in Conway, two blocks from the mighty Waccamaw River. He began his broadcasting career while in high school. After attending Coastal Carolina he followed his radio dream to Youngstown, Dayton, Detroit, Wichita and Bloomington, Illinois. Growing tired of winter weather, he jumped at the chance to return to Horry County, being with family and friends, and host the morning show on Easy 105.9 and Easy 100.7.
